Ill-fated 1987 trash barge, tugboat subject of new children’s book

(NEW YORK) — The story of the infamous garbage barge that had trouble finding a place to offload has become the subject of a new children’s book, the New York Times reported in its Sunday Book Review. The 1987 saga of the tugboat and trash barge from Islip, N.Y., is told in the book “Here Comes the Garbage Barge!” The vessels traveled down the East Coast and toward Mexico and Belize before finally returning to New York Harbor and having its content incinerated in Brooklyn.
