Icebreaker shortage could disrupt Great Lakes commerce

(MILWAUKEE, Wis.) — A lack of icebreakers could disrupt maritime commerce on the Great Lakes this winter, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel newspaper reported. Mariner groups say connecting channels were abandoned last winter, jeopardizing safety. Shipments of products including road salt could be thwarted if it’s a hard winter in 2008-09.
