Houston Ship Channel reopens after oil spill (UPDATE)

(TEXAS CITY, Texas) — The Houston Ship Channel was reopened to all traffic Wednesday for the first time since a March 22 oil spill, The Dallas Morning News reported. Nearly 170,000 gallons of bunker fuel spilled from a Kirby Inland Marine barge after a collision with the bulk carrier Summer Wind, shutting down the waterway. As of 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, 51 vessels were waiting to come into the channel and 36 were waiting to leave, the U.S. Coast Guard said.
