Horizon delivers bunker tanker to Virginia operator

(BAYOU LA BATRE, Ala.) — Horizon Shipbuilding has delivered a bunker tanker to Marine Oil Service of Norfolk, Va.

The double-hulled Lesney Byrd, designed and built by Horizon, was christened in a Feb. 6 ceremony in Norfolk. The 88-by-27-foot tanker holds 51,000 gallons of lubricating oil for delivery to ships in the harbor. It has a fuel capacity of 3,500 gallons and potable water capacity of 200 gallons.

Propulsion is provided by two John Deere 6135AFM85 engines, producing 500 hp each at 2,000 rpm, with four-blade 60-inch bronze propellers. Lesney Byrd also has a pair of John Deere 65-kW generator sets.
