Gulf spill gives new significance to maritime church service

(WASHINGTON) — A special Catholic Mass for mariners had additional meaning this year as the nation continues to battle the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, Catholic News Service reported. Washington’s Catholic archbishop noted how the Gulf tragedy is a reminder that waters are “life-giving.” Other priests emphasized the importance of the Apostleship of the Sea.
