Fuel tanker runs aground on sandbar in Canadian Arctic

(GJOA HAVEN, Nunavut) — A fuel tanker ran aground on a sandbar in the Canadian Arctic, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported. The Nanny, owned by Woodward Oil of Newfoundland, was on its way to deliver fuel to Taloyoak, Nunavut, when it grounded on an uncharted sandbar in the Simpson Strait. Responders said lightering is necessary, and it may be several days before the tanker is freed.
