Fla. port may become first to require cleaner cruise-ship fuel

(MAYPORT, Fla.) — Mayport may become the first port on the East Coast to require cruise-ship operators to use cleaner fuel while docked at their village, the Florida Times-Union reported. One proposal would push for the vessels to use auxiliary engines while docked. The village also is considering a cold-ironing system, although that would require expensive refits on existing cruise ships.
