First female pilot in Portland, Maine, dies after battle with cancer

(PORTLAND, Maine) — Portland Harbor's first female pilot has died, the Portland Press Herald newspaper reported. Susan Clark died Thursday after a battle with cancer. She was 48. A graduate of Maine Maritime Academy, Clark was described as an accomplished shiphandler. She piloted more than 1,000 ships at Portland and also was an attorney who worked on commercial marine issues in Maine.
