Fire, explosion on vessel in Mobile shipyard injures 3

(MOBILE, Ala.) — A fire and explosion aboard a new anchor-handling tug injured three firefighters at the Bender Shipbuilding and Repair Co. yard, the Press-Register newspaper reported. The intense fire burned for about 24 hours before firefighters finally extinguished it. The blaze broke out in the engine room, and officials said at least 3,000 gallons of diesel burned.
