(PORTLAND, Ore.) — A freighter captain allegedly received a $1,100 bribe to dump 159 tons of contaminated potash into the Pacific Ocean, the Willamette Week newspaper reported. The Justice Department charged Kinder Morgan Bulk Terminals Inc. with one felony count of transporting material for dumping into the ocean without a permit. The incident happened in 2003 and was first reported to authorities by a retired Portland dock worker.
