LaGrange, Illinois – Building on more than two decades of success with its popular Series 710 two-cycle, medium-speed marine engine, Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD) is pleased to announce the newest rating available for its eight-cylinder model line. Aimed at harbor docking propulsion and similar applications, the new 2500 bhp (1864 bkW) rating at 900 rpm, provides responsiveness for maximum acceleration, maneuvering and deceleration characteristics. Coupled with a new, industry-exclusive 200 rpm idle speed option, the engine offers low fuel consumption, high bollard power and wide operating range.
“EMD is very excited to make this new rating available to the marine market. Our valued customers have been anxiously awaiting this power node for the eight-cylinder engine to give them the highest power-to-weight ratio and lowest idle fuel consumption combination available in a medium-speed diesel engine today,” said Brian Grinter, Director of EMD’s Power Products Sales group.
The new rating complements EMD’s long-standing 2000 bhp (1491 bkW) and 2200 bhp (1640 bkW) ratings at 900 rpm without major changes to the existing design. Customers utilizing the 2500 bhp rating can continue to take advantage of the same intrinsic features that have made the Series 710 family renowned for high performance, lowest life cycle cost, superior durability and longest life, such as:
- Unmatched ability to reach full propeller demand from idle in fixed pitch applications
- Ability to easily visually inspect and monitor all critical internal components (pistons, piston rings, cylinder liners, cylinder heads, etc.)
- Fastest cylinder liner replacement time of any medium -speed engine in the industry
- Ease of application
- Low vibration and noise emissions
- Certified to U.S. EPA Marine Tier 3 and IMO II emissions with comprehensive marine classification society approvals, the new rating is available for immediate worldwide sale.
