Delaware River dredging to begin over state’s objections

(REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.) — The Army Corps of Engineers will begin a major dredging project in the Delaware River channel even though it was recently denied permits from the state of Delaware’s environmental department, the Cape Gazette newspaper reported. The channel is being deepened to 45 feet from 40 feet to accommodate deeper tanker drafts. State officials say the Army Corps should not start the project until all environmental permit requirements are satisfied.
