(SAN FRANCISCO) — A federal judge has refused to reinstate the mariner's license of the pilot of the containership Cosco Busan, which struck the Bay Bridge in thick fog in 2007 and spilled 53,000 gallons of oil, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. The pilot, John Cota, voluntarily surrendered his license and served 10 months in prison. The Coast Guard refused to restore Cota's license in 2011, saying he was not a "safe and suitable" pilot for reasons that went beyond the accident.
