Coast Guard suspends search for crewman in gulf

The following is the text of a news release from the U.S. Coast Guard:

NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard suspended the search for a crewmember from the utility vessel Dustin Danos, Monday.



Watchstanders with Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report, Saturday, of a missing crewman last seen aboard the Dustin Danos wearing gray long johns and a white T-shirt earlier in the day.



Multiple aircrews from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans, Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile, Ala., and a commercial helicopter crew conducted searches, along side the crews of the Coast Guard Cutter Pelican and the vessel Dustin Danos.



In total, Coast Guard crews searched for 52 hours and covered more than 2,733 square miles.



"We offer our deepest condolences to the friends and family of the missing crewmember," said Capt. Philip Schifflin, deputy commander, Sector New Orleans.

The search is suspended pending further developments.
