Charter, tug captains say manatee protection zone not working

(TITUSVILLE, Fla.) — Charter and tug captains say a go-slow zone has not been effective in protecting manatees, the Florida Today newspaper reported. In the seven years since the manatee protection rules went into effect, roughly the same number of animals are being killed in vessel strikes. Florida wildlife biologists say other factors are causing the mortality data to fail to improve.
