Cargo fumigation leak suspected in Great Lakes ship crew sickness

(PORT COLBORNE, Ontario) — The crew of the cargo ship Hermann Schoening became sickened and had trouble breathing after a fumigation leak from a cargo hold, The Standard newspaper of St. Catharines reported. Transport Canada said a phosphine gas used to protect the bulk cargo leaked into work and living spaces. Most of the crew were released from the hospital by Wednesday.
