BP tries “junk shot” and “top hat” strategies at leak site (PHOTOS)

(PORT FOURCHON, La.) — BP Plc now plans to use debris to plug the oil leak at the Deepwater Horizon site, Scientific American magazine reported. A so-called “top hat” canopy is also on its way aboard the vessel Gulf Protector to the leaking well head. The “junk shot” strategy, using golf and tennis balls and tires, is designed to clog the blowout preventer so concrete can then be poured over the leak.
