(SAVANNAH, Tenn.) — A house was hit by a barge that was part of a breakaway Thursday on the Tennessee River about a mile downriver from the Pickwick Dam, The Courier reported.
The house on Arnold Lane was heavily damaged, according to Hardin County Fire Chief Melvin Martin. The loose barges, which Martin estimated at a dozen or more, were secured later Thursday.
Officials were initially concerned about the barges hitting the U.S. 64 bridge at Savannah, but they were retrieved before that could occur.
