B.C. tug sinks with empty oil barge in tow

The following is the text of a deployment notice from the Transportation Safety Board of Canada:

(RICHMOND, British Columbia) — The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is deploying a team of investigators to Campbell River, B.C., to assess an occurrence involving the tug Log Baron which sank 4 nautical miles west of Cape Caution with an empty oil barge in tow. The TSB will gather information and assess the occurrence.

The TSB is an independent agency that investigates marine, pipeline, railway and aviation transportation occurrences. Its sole aim is the advancement of transportation safety. It is not the function of the board to assign fault or determine civil or criminal liability.
