(MOBILE, Ala.) — Austal USA christened the littoral combat ship (LCS) USS Gabrielle Giffords on Saturday, AL.com reported. The former congresswoman from Arizona was in attendance and told the crowd: "Thank you to all the people who built this ship. She's stealthy. She will defend freedom around the world. Go Navy." The 419-foot, Independence-class ship is the third LCS in Austal’s 10-ship, $3.5 billion block-buy contract.
