Anti-piracy duty highlights Coast Guard’s policing powers (PHOTOS)

(SAN FRANCISCO) — The U.S. Coast Guard’s anti-piracy duty in the Gulf of Aden illustrates the agency’s policing powers that many Americans don’t know about, the Los Angeles Times reported. The cutter Boutwell recently returned to the U.S. after serving off Somalia. One crewman said the far-away duty shows the Coast Guard personnel’s “toughness.”
