(VICTORIA, British Columbia) — Tour operator Prince of Whales will add to its fleet by building a sister ship to the 95-passenger catamaran Salish Sea Dream, which was delivered earlier this year, the Times Colonist reported.
ABD Enterprises of North Vancouver will build the second ship, which will launch in the spring of 2019 and be based in Victoria.
The new catamaran will build on technology used in Salish Sea Dream with the next generation of waterjets to reduce noise.
"The number one cause of machine noise in the water is propeller cavitation — air bubbles forming as the propellers push through the ocean — but the catamaran has interior water propulsion jets so there are no propellers," said Alan McGillivray, president of Prince of Whales.
The company also has an option to build a third vessel in 2020.
