La. officials recommend closing down the Melville Ferry (PHOTO)

(MELVILLE, La.) — A state commission recommends shutting down the Melville Ferry in a cost-cutting move, the Opelousas Daily World newspaper reported. The six-vehicle tug-and-barge combination crosses the Atchafalaya River, but the number of users has declined in recent years. The tolls cover only about 10 percent of the expenses.
