Editorial: Ballast water treatment ‘should have happened yesterday’

(DETROIT) — In an editorial, the Detroit Free Press newspaper said governments should act quickly to prevent the spread of invasive species in the Great Lakes from ships’ ballast water. The current deadline to comply with the initial set of international standards for treating ballast water is 2012. The newspaper said the rules “should have happened yesterday.”
