(BALTIMORE) — The containership Dali lost electrical power hours before leaving the Port of Baltimore and striking the Francis Scott Key Bridge, according to the preliminary report released Tuesday by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
In a span of about 10 hours, the ship experienced multiple blackouts – two during in-port maintenance – before hitting the central truss spans of the Key Bridge on March 26. The report comes seven weeks after the bridge collapse killed six construction workers.
The preliminary report provided a synopsis of factual information collected during the on-scene phase of the investigation. A final NTSB report, which will include conclusions and safety recommendations, will come in one or two years.
