Workboat Academy Recognized as Trailblazer and Innovator by the Department of Labor

The Department of Labor’s Office of Apprenticeship has formerly recognized the Workboat Academy as a 21st Century Registered Apprenticeship Trailblazer and Innovator. Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis met with  representatives of the Program on August 1st during the commemorative ceremony of the 75th Anniversary of the signing of the National Apprenticeship Act.

“It was a great honor to meet with Secretary Solis and acknowledge the role that apprenticeship programs have played within the U.S. workforce,” said Glen Paine, Executive Director of MITAGS-PMI and the Workboat of Academy. “The Workboat Academy has been very successful in its hands-on-training of apprentices, both in the classroom and with Partner Companies on the vessels.”

The Office of Apprenticeship commemorated “Out Educate, Out Build, Out Innovate” at the National Education and Action Summit, which was attended by leaders, partners and stakeholders of registered apprentice programs at the Department of Labor’s Great Hall in Washington D.C.
