(WOODS HOLE, Mass.) — R/V Neil Armstrong, the newest addition to the nation's academic research fleet, arrived at its home port Wednesday at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, the Vineyard Gazette reported. The 238-foot ship, built at the Dakota Creek Shipyard in Anacortes, Wash., is equipped for advanced mapping, sampling and global ocean exploration. Neil Armstrong replaces the retired research vessel Knorr, which had been in operation since 1970.
