Va. ‘ghost fleet’ tanker to remain grounded until January

(NEWPORT NEWS, Va.) — The James River Reserve Fleet tanker ship Monongahela will remain grounded in mud until at least January, the Daily Press newspaper reported. The dormant ship broke loose from the reserve fleet during a nor’easter Nov. 12. The Coast Guard is working with Titan Salvage, which plans to use large hydraulic pullers anchored aft of the vessel to try to dislodge the ship during high tides.
