Feds may close Chicago ship canal to avert invasive carp ‘crisis’

(CHICAGO) — The federal government is considering closing the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal while trying to thwart the spread of the Asian carp, the Chicago Tribune reported. Scientists are worried that the invasive fish may migrate into the Great Lakes. Such a move would be a major blow to shipping, because the canal is the only link between the Great Lakes and Mississippi River.
