'Unprecedented' ice strands freighter on Muskegon Lake

Ice

(MUSKEGON, Mich.) — A tugboat came to the aid of a coal freighter Monday after unusually thick early-season ice prevented the ship from making a delivery on Muskegon Lake, WZZM reported. The freighter Buffalo became stuck in the ice 2,000 feet from Consumer Energy's B.C. Cobb plant. The tug Meredith Ashton, equipped with 2,100-hp twin diesel engines, broke through the ice and allowed Buffalo to reach its destination.
