Unionized NYC mariners rebel after turmoil engulfs Local 333

(NEW YORK) — Unionized mariners in New York Harbor face infighting and an uncertain future after Local 333 of the United Marine Division was placed under trusteeship, the New York Times reported. For all intents and purposes, breakaway members say Local 333 is not functioning after a financial adviser was discovered to be stealing money and went to prison. Members who are employees of K-Sea Transportation have filed a petition with the National Labor Relations Board to decertify Local 333 and to form a new Staten Island-based union they are calling Richmond Terrace Bargaining Group.
