U.S. Navy rescue ship scuttled to create artificial reef in Caymans

(GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands) — A former U.S. Navy submarine rescue ship has been scuttled off Grand Cayman to form an artificial reef, the Los Angeles Times reported. The decommissioned USS Kittiwake, built in 1944, now rests in 62 feet of water off Seven Mile Beach. It is designed to serve as cover for aquatic life and an attraction for divers and snorkelers.
