U.S. judge sentences Maersk Alabama pirate to 34 years in prison

(NEW YORK) — A federal judge sentenced a Somali pirate to 33 years, nine months in prison, Reuters reported. The Somali, who was throught to be 16 at the time of the attack, was the sole survivor among the pirates who kidnapped the captain of the Maersk Alabama in the Indian Ocean. In court, the defendant apologized to the victims and to the U.S. government.
