Tugboats free stuck tanker from alongside bridge, which will be closed for days

(KITTERY, Maine) — The Sarah Mildred Long Bridge will be closed for several days after the accident involving a wayward tanker ship, the Portland Press Herald newspaper reported. The 470-foot Harbour Feature, carrying tallow oil, broke loose from a nearby mooring during refueling and drifted into the bridge, damaging granite bridge supports and getting stuck sideways alongside the bridge. Tugboats pulled the ship free from the bridge, and the Coast Guard is investigating the cause of the accident.
