Tug captains, pilots joining effort to keep Maersk at Charleston

(CHARLESTON, S.C.) — The Ports Authority, longshoremen, tug captains and pilots are among a chorus expressing concern of Maersk Lines’ announcement that it plans to stop calling at Charleston, the Post and Courier newspaper reported. Regional groups met at the Maritime Association building to talk about new arrangements to keep Maersk at the port. The Danish company says it is exiting Charleston because it can’t reach an appropriate agreement with the Longshoremen’s Association.
