Towboat, barges strike bridge pier on Tennessee River

(LEDBETTER, Ky.) — A towboat and barge struck the U.S. Route 60 bridge over the Tennessee River, television station KFVS reported. The Gladys Ford was upbound with several barges when the accident happened. Highway engineers were already at the bridge due to an ongoing construction project, so they were able to begin a damage assessment immediately after the tow struck the bridge pier Monday. The bridge has since reopened to vehicle traffic.
