Thousand-foot laker damages hull in collision with Duluth dock

The following is the text of a press release issued by the U.S. Coast Guard:

 

(DULUTH, Minn.) — U.S. Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Duluth is investigating an allision between the laker Edwin H. Gott and a pier near the Port Terminal Pier here, Friday, at approximately 1 p.m.

There are no reports of injuries or pollution; however, the 1004-footer sustained minor damage to its exterior hull above the water line on the starboard side, while docked at its winter lay-up berth.

The Coast Guard is working closely with the vessel’s owner, Great Lakes Fleet Inc., to ensure safe repairs for the crew and the environment.
