Tanker hits Sunshine Bridge in Louisiana (VIDEO)

The following is text of a news release from the U.S. Coast Guard:

(NEW ORLEANS) — The Coast Guard is responding to a tank ship that struck the Sunshine Bridge in St. James Parish, La., on Sunday.

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report that the Marshall Islands-flagged tank ship Dank Silver struck the Sunshine Bridge at 1:30 p.m.

The vessel, owned by Dank Silver Maritime Transportation Co. Ltd., was heading downbound from Burnside, La., and is currently held at Grande View Anchorage, La., to assess any damage.  

Members from Sector New Orleans are investigating the incident. The bridge was closed for part of the day but has been reopened.

There have been no reported injuries or pollution.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
