Sternwheeler W.P. Snyder awarded more money for upgrades

(MARIETTA, Ohio) — The historic sternwheeler W.P. Snyder has been awarded an additional grant for more upgrades, just as the vessel returned to its Muskingum River dock after a major refit, the Marietta Times newspaper reported. The Ohio Department of Transportation has approved a $736,000 grant from various sources to pay for improvements to the 92-year-old riverboat’s superstructure and electrical system. Some matching funds must be raised, and then the sternwheeler will again depart Marietta for an out-of-town shipyard.
