State officials back $52M Savannah River dredge plan

(SAVANNAH, Georgia) — Georgia’s governor has included a $52 million dredging project for the Savannah River as part of his budget proposal, the Savannah Morning News reported. The plan would give the river a 48-foot-deep channel, six feet deeper than it is now. The move is designed to accomodate larger containerships, and the project is scheduled to be completed by 2012.
