(ST. JOHN’S, Newfoundland) — A fire broke out in a cargo hold aboard a research ship that was getting ready to undock to map the Titanic debris field, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported. Firefighters couldn’t pinpoint the cause of a smoky fire aboard the Jean Charcot, but they said some welding had taken place in the vicinity earlier. The crew was evacuated when the fire was discovered while the ship was still in St. John’s Harbour.
