Signal lost from barge adrift in Arctic since last year

Ntcl Barge Beaufort Sea

(WASHINGTON) — The U.S. Coast Guard is no longer tracking a drifting barge in the Beaufort Sea after a GPS beacon dropped on board last fall stopped transmitting, CBC News reported. The Northern Transportation Company Limited barge, carrying 3,500 liters of light diesel in its fuel tanks, broke away from its towboat in October 2014 after delivering supplies to a remote site along the Canadian coastline. By March, the barge had drifted about 800 kilometers and was about 42 kilometers away from Russia.
