(HARBOR SPRINGS, Mich.) — In an old seafarers’ tradition thought to bring a ship good luck, a baby was christianed aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw, the Petoskey News-Review newspaper reported. The child’s name was then inscribed on the ship’s bell, which was used as the font. The little girl was nicknamed “Poe” because the cutter spends so much time in the vicinity of the Poe Lock.
