Shell seeks five more years for Alaska offshore drilling

(WASHINGTON) — Royal Dutch Shell is asking the Obama administration for an additional five years to explore for oil off Alaska’s coast, Bloomberg News reported. The company said circumstances beyond its control have resulted in delays that could push the start of drilling past the 2017 expiration of some leases. Setbacks have included the grounding of the drill ship Kulluk and the near grounding of another drilling vessel, Noble Discoverer.
