(SEATTLE) — A barge stacked with crushed cars caught fire Tuesday night as it was moored adjacent to Seattle Iron & Metals Corp. on the Duwamish River, sending a large black plume of smoke into the sky, Westside Seattle reported.

The 120-foot barge caught fire shortly after 8 p.m. Seattle fire units responded on shore but could not immediately get to the flames. The fireboat Leschi had to make its way at a relatively slow speed up the river, arriving at 8:30 p.m. and largely extinguishing the fire by 9:30.

The fire caused heavy damage to the barge and at least two cars went in the river and will have to be recovered. One firefighter suffered minor injuries.

No immediate cause for the fire was determined.
