Scientists discuss huge sea barriers to protect NYC from flooding

(NEW YORK) — Scientists are discussing the idea of creating huge man-made barriers that would protect New York City in the event of a catastrophic hurricane, the Associated Press reported. Potential locations would be between Sandy Hook, N.J., and Rockaway Peninsula; at the Narrows between Upper and Lower New York Bays; on the upper East River, or on the Arthur Kill at the southern tip of Staten Island. They are proposing gates and navigation locks to allow commercial maritime traffic to flow through.
