The following is text of a news release from Schuyler Cos.:

(WOODINVILLE, Wash.) — Schuyler Rubber in conjunction with its joint venture partner Shibata Fenderteam, is pleased to be providing the fendering package for the U.S. Navy YT 808 Class harbor tugs that are contracted to be built at Dakota Creek Industries in Anacortes, Wash.

The grey colored rubber above the waterline is to prevent the tug fendering from marking gray-hulled Navy ships when being handled and assisted by the tug. This gray fendering includes two courses of cylindrical rubber on the bow and one course on the stern, coupled with W-fendering on the mid-bow and various D-rubber strakes oriented down the side.

Below the waterline, the rubber fendering is all black in color. On the middle bow is a Schuyler Model 100A tapered laminated fender followed by a Schuyler Model 153 laminated stem fender that is formed to the rounded shape of the bow stem and tapered on the aft edges for improved hydrodynamics. Along the sides and around the Z-drives are black strakes of underwater D-rubber that work together with the black laminated bow fendering for submarine handling.
