The following is the text of a press release issued by Ribcraft:
(MARBLEHEAD, Mass.) — RIBCRAFT®, the United States manufacturer of professional grade rigid inflatable boats for, announced today the delivery of a RIBCRAFT 6.5 to the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
The 21’5″ RIB is part of the “Inlet and River Mouth Dynamics” research initiative to study and enhance capabilities to predict sediment transport, waves, and currents in riverine and tidal flows which will increase the Navy’s capabilities to operate and navigate safely in such environments.
Equipped with a center console, two jockey-style pod seats, and a reinforced antenna arch, the boat will be used to transport researchers, divers, and equipment to study sites located at river inlets where sea conditions can be quite aggressive. While on station, the boat will be used to deploy and maintain current meters and waves gauges.
“We operate in the waves, so we needed a boat that did well in those conditions and provided a stable work platform for our divers and a RIBCRAFT does just that,†said Senior Scientist, Applied Ocean Physics and Engineering, Steve Elgar.
Featuring RIBCRAFT’s signature deep-v hull, full length lifting strakes, heavy duty multi chambered Hypalon® tubes with pressure relief valves, high capacity deck drains and high profile rubstrake, the Institution’s new RIB will deliver outstanding performance in their rough water research environment.
Headquartered in Marblehead , Massachusetts , RIBCRAFT designs and builds safe, durable, performance oriented rigid inflatable boats (RIBs) that fulfill the most demanding professional and recreational applications.
