Report: AIS data was missing from box ship probed in fatal sinking

(CAPE MAY, N.J.) — Investigators examined whether the containership Cap Beatrice had anything to do with the sinking of the scallop boat Lady Mary, the Star-Ledger newspaper of Newark reported. AIS signals for the box ship were unavailable for the period in question in November 2009 and the Coast Guard concluded there was no evidence to confirm a collision. Six crewmen from the Lady Mary were killed when the boat sank suddenly outside the entrance to Delaware Bay.
