Los Angeles port officials likely to thwart $50M shipyard plan

(LOS ANGELES) — Port officials this week may reject a plan to build a $50 million shipyard at Terminal Island’s Southwest Marine slips, the Long Beach Press-Telegram newspaper reported. Gambol Industries proposes opening the shipbuilding and repair business, but the Board of Harbor Commissioners is skeptical that an agreement can be allowed to proceed at the site. At issue are competed ideas for where to store dredge spoils from the Main Channel deepening project.
